The Lace

Like a flying carpet, this work gives you a magical feeling. It is actually a piece of lace that mimics a winged cap, which is part of traditional Dutch folk costume.

The work is made from woven fabric that reflects light. It symbolises the closely interwoven city; the connection between different people, urban structure and the symbiosis of the historical city with the multicultural world of today. Choi incorporated aspects of her Korean culture in the realisation for the artwork (Hanbok, a traditional sewing and paper art), showing the value of cultural cross-pollination.
