TAKE FLIGHT!

RALF WESTERHOF

THE NETHERLANDS

Ralf Westerhof created a line drawing of a white bird taking flight. As a symbol it can be used in different settings, symbolizing freedom and peace are the most common. On the school where it was first placed it symbolized young adults, ready for the world leaving the nest. The specific placement of the lines in 3D space give a coherent yet different drawing from various angles. Bright LED neon flex makes the work an energy efficient and a highly visible eye catcher, able to lure people from afar.

About Ralf Westerhof

Ralf Westerhof is known for his 3D drawings that he creates using hand-curved iron wires. Westerhof finds inspiration for his kinetic art in the work of Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918). Westerhofs wiresculputers look fragile but are quite sturdy.
